ABOUT DR E K TAN

An Introduction to Dr Tan Eng Kien

 

DR Tan Eng Kien (E K Tan) obtained his basic medical degree from the University of Manchester in 1997, graduating with honours. He completed his O & G training in the United Kingdom and is an accredited specialist in the UK and Singapore. He obtained his Membership from the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (MRCOG) in 2001. During his specialist training in Glasgow Scotland, he completed the RCOG Special Skills Module in Gynaecology Ultrasound Imaging, Advanced Training Skills Module in Fetal Medicine, and obtained the Advanced Diploma in Obstetrics Ultrasound.  He is also a Diplomate of the Faculty of Family Planning UK.  Having been judged by the College (RCOG) to have advanced the science and art of O & G, Dr Tan was admitted as a Fellow of the College (FRCOG) in 2014.

 

Special Area of Interest – High-Risk Pregnancies

Dr Tan has a special interest in the management of high-risk pregnancies such as multiple births (twins) and pregnancies with complications (like diabetes, high blood pressure, babies with congenital problems). Other interests included water births and obstetric ultrasound imaging.

 

Contributor and Speaker at Professional Events

An active contributor on articles on women’s health in magazines and symposiums, Dr Tan is certified by Advanced Life Support Group UK to be a MOET trainer.  The Management of Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma course (MOET) is a course to train senior doctors (OBGYN and anaesthetist) in life saving techniques to pregnant women with serious complications.  He regularly teaches MOET in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

 

Highly-Experienced in the Medical Community

Prior to starting his private practice in 2016, Dr Tan was holding multiple portfolios at National University Hospital where he was a Senior Consultant, Assistant Professor and the Residency Program Director.  He was the consultant in charge of the Delivery Suite, updating the protocols, ensuring that pregnant mothers were well looked after during labour and their babies were delivered safely.  He started the NUH PROMPT course (Professional Obstetric Multi-professional Training), a multidisciplinary course training labour ward midwives and doctors in emergencies looking after the labouring mums, communication and teamwork.  Dr Tan was also one of the consultants in charge of the Fetal Care Centre.  He performed nuchal translucency (OSCAR scans), fetal anomaly ultrasounds (FA scans) and amniocentesis for pregnant mothers.

 

Passionate about Developing Younger Doctors

Dr Tan was the residency program director at NUH, from 2010 to 2016.  Under his leadership, the NUH OBGYN residency program for training specialists doctors was accredited by the United States ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education).  He was instrumental in implementing the curriculum and assessment methods for NUH junior O & G doctors, ensuring that they were properly trained to provide quality care for women's health.


Multilingual in English, Mandarin and Cantonese

Dr Tan is multilingual in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.


An avid photographer who likes to capture beautiful moments, one of Dr Tan’s greatest satisfaction is being able to witness a mother cradle her newborn baby after having gone through hours of labour. Being an avid photographer, Dr Tan is meticulous with image quality, and explains his attention to details with ultrasound imaging in his daily clinical practice.

陈英健医生在1997年毕业于英国曼彻斯特医学院,获得了曼彻斯特大学内外科荣誉学位。毕业之后,他在英国和苏格兰完成了妇产科专科训练,获得了英国医药理事会的鉴定,在英国和新加坡是个合格的妇产科专科医生。他的专业资格包括了英国皇家妇产科学院的院士和英国皇家妇产科学院荣授院士。他也在英国格拉斯哥完成了英国皇家妇产科学院所颁发的产妇胎儿医学和妇产科超声波诊断文凭。

 

陈英健医生之前是新加坡国大医院妇产科部门的培训主任,负责培训年轻的医生。他擅长于紧急产科模拟示教学,是个合格有经验的导师,教导过英国,澳大利亚,新西兰和中国的医生和助产护士。

 

陈医生的专常在于照顾高风险孕妇产前检查,超声波,诊断和水底分娩。他操纵流利的英语,普通话和广东话。
